Why didn’t you do a VBAC

Where are my C-section mamas at‼️
➡️😵‍💫Based on a real DM sent to my inbox.
I’ve gotten hundreds of dms asking why I didn’t do a vbac.

😑There is a lot of chatter on socials about how unnecessary csections are, especially during #csectionawarenessmonth … how they are pushed on moms, how they could successfully do a vbac, how they could have successfully delivered vaginally if they were given more time, or my personal favorite “worst” comment…if mom tried hard enough.

➡️I also have hundreds of messages from C-section moms saying they felt so much shame and guilt around their unplanned or planned C-section until coming to my page and feeling advocated for.

🙌🏽I will continue to advocate for C-section mamas, because there isn’t enough of it.

➡️Whether you wanted or didn’t want your C-section, i think you are a warrior and you birthed your baby by all means necessary.

➡️You sacrificed so much to get your baby into the world safely and in the way that felt best to you. There is no room for shame around that.

✅A C-section…is necessary if it’s what’s mom wants
✅It’s necessary if it’s better for moms mental health
✅it’s necessary if planning a second C-section means that mom can calm her racing fears of ending up in the same emergency situation
✅if it means a safer entrance for baby and for the birth of the mom

➡️🤍Your birth experience matters.

😌Don’t let anyone make you question your choices surrounding your birth, mothering or postpartum recovery. Mama knows best.

  1. Why… Just WHY? Why would someone feel it’s okay to tell you that? I just don’t see how anyone could say or write that and not see how demeaning that is. 🙁 I’m SO sorry that you opened up your DM’s and had to read such a message.
I’ve had two C-sections, my second was planned and my first was not. Both of my babies were huge (my son was 10 1/2 pounds), and I had one too many women tell me, “Awww, well, having a 10 pound baby vaginally is totally possible. I wish the doctor would have let you try harder and longer.” Hmmm, thank you for that???
All that mattered to me was that I had a healthy son at the end. The doctor made the call that he felt was best after a day of labor, and – honestly – in the moment, I knew that was the best choice as well. This massive turkey of a baby (my son was HUGE!) would have tore me sooooo badly.
I also hate that C-sections aren’t considered “natural birth” because – guess what – I still grew the baby for 9 months and still HAD my baby. I just needed help. And C-sections are major surgery with quite the recovery, so I also hate when people talk about them as though they were the easier option. They’re very scary in the moment; so while there might not be pain, the mental strength it takes to get through it is undeniable. And then the recovery, obviously, is more painful.
If you can’t tell, Girl, I am SO with you on this one!!!! Ha, ha! I love that you’re advocating for yourself and other C-section mama’s! 🙂
